We Love Lace

Jason Wu

Keeping it fresh, youthful and glamorous for the fall can be simple just by adding lace details to your wardrobe. There are many different fabrics that are appealing to the fashion industry and used repeatedly every season, but lace is the most popular. The variations of color, types, and style of lace embroidered on accessories make lace not only popular, but wearable during any season; it’s a staple of high end and affordable pieces.

Lace fabric is everywhere this fall 2011. Some coveted designer labels like See by Chloe, Marchesa, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana and Jimmy Choo have incorporated lace into their collection of pieces that could last a lifetime. Jason Wu, Manhattan based fashion designer, whose full collection debuted in 2006, previewed his lace-full fall 2011 master pieces during fall ’11 fashion week.

“The dresses had lace sleeves, skirts with lace paneling and some models wore masks sculpted out of lace,” says Amy Odell of New York magazine’s fashion blog the Cut in the article Jason Wu is ‘in a lace state of mind,’ encounters most of his fans at Starbucks. A Huffington Post article titled Jason Wu’s fall 2011: 15 Types of lace & Drastic slits states that with the affect of the delicate lace embodied pieces, Wu successfully turned modern looks into pieces that evoke the elegance of yesteryear.

It’s no wonder elegance and style can be created with such a simple fabric. Lace is transformative yet fashionable; it encompasses the old and the new. There are different variations of lace – needle lace, cutwork, bobbin lace, tape lace and machine made lace, just to name a few. The variations have allowed this year’s most famous designers to produce the most appealing lace detailing seen in years, in some of fashion’s most creative collections.
