Miss Black California 2013's Community Outreach

Music makes the world go round:

When I first embarked on this journey as Miss Black California USA 2013, I wanted so badly to reach the members of my community in a way that I hadn't done before.

Yes, serving meals to the homeless as a ministry and being an active member of BSU as a University Student got me out of my comfort zone, but I needed to be more proactive.

On March 17, 2013 at 3PM, I did just that. What better way to reach the members of my community but through music.

The 10th Annual Black Bay Area Music Awards was an exceptional event and a great beginning to expanding my mission to increase my public awareness and expand my efforts to meet more members of my community. I had the opportunity to hear so many inspiring stories and words of wisdom.

One wonderful woman took my contact information in order to present it to the members of the National Coalition for teachers in hopes of someday having the opportunity to speak at one of their engagements. This would be a great honor.

The laughter, the smiles and the overall curiosity as to who is Miss Black California 2013 gave me great pride.

The excitement I had in telling people my story and the importance of the various platforms I uphold like maintaining health and fitness to reduce the risk of heart disease and prevention of homelessness among the teen population gave me the continuous courage to continue and share the spotlight with others as I travel throughout life.

This experience has given me a new outlook on life and a new attitude about my community at large. Who they are, their contributions to music and their stories. This moment in time was priceless, nothing can compare.
